Ithaka at MYO Summer Camp

Excerpts from Ithaka were performed at the final concert for the MYO Summer Music Camp. The Melbourne Youth Orchestra organisation’s annual summer camp involves hundreds of students of varying levels, spread across orchestras, string groups, concert bands, jazz ensembles, and choirs.

Originally written as part of post-graduate studies, Ithaka was premiered by the University of Melbourne Orchestra in 2012, conducted by Fabian Russell. The MYO performance was conducted by Warwick Stengaards, and took place in the Elizabeth Murdoch Hall of the Melbourne Recital Centre at the conclusion to the Summer Camp

It was a challenging and rewarding experience for the students, who lifted the roof with the fiery culmination to the piece. Youth orchestras are renowned for their passion and energy, with both qualities present in this piece of music
