Lyrebird Brass performed several movements of Melbourne Mosaic at the Melbourne Recital Centre. The work was commissioned by them in 2016, and is featured on their album ‘Apex Predators’ released through Common Tone Records

Melbourne Mosaic celebrates several iconic places in the city, including shopping arcades, the solemn Shrine of Remembrance, the serene Botanical Gardens and the soaring Arts Centre spire. It showcases the individual instruments of the brass quintet, delivering everything from passionate dances to distant fanfares.

Lyrebird Brass comprise members of the brass faculty from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, some of whom also play in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. They are Joel Brennan and Rosie Turner, trumpets, Carla Blackwood on horn, Don Immel on trombone, and Tim Buzbee on tuba. They are strong supporters of new Australian music, born out by the fact that all the music on ‘Apex Predators’ is by contemporary Australian composers. Along with Melbourne Mosaic there are pieces by Harry Sdraulig, Luke Styles, Robert S Cohen, and Catherine Likhuta.
